Club Tour 2016

Club Tour 2016

Over the August Bank holiday weekend 58 club members and friends were involved in this year’s tour, based at the Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie Perthshire.

Following a pleasant journey north and a lunch in the hotel, the tour split into two sections with the President’s section going to Rattray Bowling Club and the Tour Organiser’s section travelling to Blairgowrie Bowling Club.

Both sections taking part in an enjoyable and very social six mixed rinks friendly at their respective venues.

On return to the hotel it was time for an evening meal with a 60’s/70’s theme, which saw, among other many wonderful sights, Elvis in the house!

Eric and Kath Bowe as Men’s and Ladies’ President highlighted with a great performance of Victoria Woods song “I can’t do it”.

Then most people, still in costume, wandered into the town giving the locals something to talk about in the various hostelries visited.

After breakfast, most people took a stroll around the town and along the river possibly to clear heads!

Then again on the Cumbrian Coaches transport, driven by our usual driver Kenny, to be taken to either Canmore Bowling Club (President’s section) or Kirriemuir Bowling Club (Tour Organiser’s section) for another six rink friendly, again being both very enjoyable and social.

The two clubs then hosted a meal before we regrouped at Canmore Bowling Club for an evening of entertainment and socialising. It was there that the phantom Cumbrian bowling dancer made their guest appearance.

Monday saw us travelling to Ralston Bowling Club in Paisley where the afternoon was taken over by a friendly involving twelve mixed rinks followed by an afternoon tea.

Then homeward bound, but stopping off at The Solway Lodge Hotel for an evening meal before finally reaching base back at the bowling club.

The tour was again a huge success, everyone who went had a wonderful time and the hospitality of all the clubs we visited was second to none.

Anne and Bob Dalziel did a magnificent job of organising the tour, as they always do.

Next year’s tour is in the planning stages, but already many of the members who went this year are expecting to sign up and it is hoped that the friends from both Silloth & Wigton Park Bowling Clubs who came this year will be involved again next year.
